Job Description

We are seeking a seasoned Senior Database Administrator responsible for managing SQL Servers within our organization. The role encompasses administration of SQL Servers for a private entity, encompassing a growing portfolio of critical systems and data warehousing both on-premises and in Azure. Key responsibilities include planning, configuration, administration (with a focus on security), backup and recovery, deployment, and documentation.

The Senior Database Administrator must possess essential skills to address performance issues in ETL and large-scale reporting workloads in a data warehouse. This involves recommending solutions, collaborating with engineering teams to implement performance improvements, and taking a leadership role in guiding the team on SQL Server features and capabilities, including Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, implement, and administer all databases for respective stakeholders
  • Develop, implement, and enforce standards and procedures for optimal performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Provide expertise on storage configurations, VMWare setup, optimization, performance tuning, and Microsoft processes related to database performance
  • Identify and resolve issues related to database systems to ensure continuous operation
  • Enhance the database disaster recovery and backup plan
  • Develop and refine standards, processes, procedures, and guidelines for database environments
  • Consistently deploy SQL Server installations across various environments
  • Monitor hardware utilization across production, development, and QA, making recommendations for optimal system performance
  • Adhere to company security policies and standards for database access
  • Automate maintenance tasks to enhance operational efficiency
  • Participate in on-call rotation, including nights and weekends as required
  • Mentor and lead a small team of DBAs with varying skills and experience

Education

  • Bachelor of Science (B.S) or equivalent experience

Experience

  • 5-8 years of experience in Database Administration
